71 Weight Loss Tips: Fact Or Fiction?

There are thousands of articles, both online and in print, that purport to provide the "definitive" set of weight loss tips. From "10 Ways To Lose 10 Pounds In 10 Days" to "71 Weight Loss Tips," you could spend the next six months doing nothing but reading lists while your weight continues to increase.The important thing to remember is that no set of tips is going to cover everyone. You need to decide what is important to you before you embrace any suggestions from outside. In consultation with your doctor or health-care professional, decide what you are looking for, including:

  • How much you need to lose
  • What health issues you have other than weight
  • How much exercise you can do, and what type
  • Your commitment to your weight loss

Whatever your requirements, there is very likely at least one set of weight loss tips you can embrace. However, you might be better served to look beyond a pre-made list to create your own set of tips, suggestions or resolutions. No one knows better than you what areas you need to work on. No one knows better than you the words and phrases that will resonate and help keep you motivated. Most importantly, once you've picked or written your tips, don't forget them. Write themdown or print them out and keep them somewhere visible. One of the most popular places to keep tips out in the open is on a refrigerator or pantry door. Next to the mirror where you most often check your appearance is another good choice. You might want to make several copies, and put them in your "weak spots," those places you most often are when snack cravings hit. One dieter had his wife secure one to an ice cream container inside the freezer!

That's another vital component: a sense of humor. Dieting and weight loss can at times seem like an albatross around one's neck, and being able to laugh and have a healthy appreciation for how far you've come (and how far you may yet have to go) will lighten the load immeasurably.

Whatever you pick, and wherever you post them, tips are only as effective as your commitment to them.
