Although not all weight-loss programs tend to provoke dehydration, the ones that are thought to lose more than two pounds per week usually do, since they usually manage to achieve that goal by reducing water in the body and energy supplies. That is why those diets that implicate excessive exercise and food restriction may be dangerous in terms of dehydration; and when it comes to direct restriction of fluid intake, the conclusion is obvious. In fact, loosing too much weight in little time is considered a reliable clue for dehydrationdetecting this problem. However, excessive exercise is not the only way the body can suffer dehydration, being the use of diuretics and laxatives also dangerous and counteracting in those terms.

When it comes to consequences, as water is the most important nutrient in the body, its absence may lead to serious risks, like changes in the body's chemistry, or kidney failure, apart from attempting against physical performance. Besides, the re-hydration process takes time, the same time the body was dehydrated if it was caused by exercise, but usually much more when the cause was related to diuretics or laxatives. Besides, in those cases, during the recovery face the body may retain more fluid than necessary, in order to balance its recent disequilibrium, which leads to ultimate weight gain.

In conclusion, being wary in order to avoid to dehydrate will not only save the dieter a big spectrum of problems, but also will help to achieve a healthy weight-loss, free of undesirable ups and downs.
