Eating While on the Detox Diet

The detox diet or cleansing diet allows you to clean out your colon, which will also rid you of any toxins that are being great to eat while on the detox diet.

What Not to Eat While on the Detox Diet

  • Foods containing sugars and syrups. This rules out almost anything that is sweetened unless it is naturally sweet, such as fruit.
  • Most dairy products including milk, yogurt, eggs, cheese, butter, cottage cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream. This also includes non-fat varieties.
  • All bread products as they contain wheat. This includes white, wheat, whole wheat, and whole grain varieties.
  • Coffee, whether it be caffeinated or non-caffeinated.
  • Peanuts.

What to Eat While on the Detox Diet

  • Teas are a good substitute for water and soda, the Detox Dietespecially green tea. Remember, however, that you should limit your caffeine while on detoxification diets.
  • Water, 8-10 glasses per day.
  • Fresh fruit and diluted 100% fruit juices. Avoid canned fruits which are often packed in heavy syrups or fruit juices that have added sugar.
  • All vegetables and vegetable juices.
  • Rice, rice cakes, buckwheat, and millet.
  • Extra virgin olive oil.
  • Most nuts and seeds including flaxseed, almonds, walnuts, cashews, and sunflower seeds.
  • Most beans including pinto beans, back beans, and kidney beans.

There are many tasty meals that you can make while on detoxification diets. Do remember to keep foods high in fat out of your diet. Although you may be able to buy already prepared foods containing items that are okay to eat while on the diet, be sure to check their fat content before you eat them, as prepared foods often hide high amounts of sugar, fat, and salt easily.
