For centuries, people have believed that there are foods that actually help you lose weight. From grapefruits to celery, cabbage and more, just about every food group at some point has been declared to be the ultimate weight loss buddy.

If you are trying to lose weight, then you should know that there are some foods selections that can help you control your weight. But as for there actually being foods that help you lose weight, there is no magic pill.

Foods that help you lose weight by controlling your food intake are generally those foods that are high in fiber, such as oatmeal. Foods that are high in fiber will make you feel more satiated for a longer amount of time. Foods that are high in fiber also help to regulate your internal system, keeping your system running smoothly.

Often, though, foods that are filling, such as potatoes, rice and pasta, make you feel fuller, but they are also loaded with dangerous levels of carbohydrates. These foods usually have more carbohydrates than the body can process, leaving you feeling tired and making sure that the extra carbohydrates are converted into fat and left on your body. Therefore, it is essential that you realize that you must maintain a strict balance between the foods that you intake and the foods that you use up.

As for the so-called grapefruit cure? There was, for awhile, a belief that eating one grapefruit a day would assure that you stay full and lose weight. The acid in the grapefruit was said to aid digestion and the processing of certain foods. However, the truth is more in the composition: grapefruits are almost entirely made of water and fiber. As such, the large piece of fruit will fill you up and keep you regular, but it will not assure that your fat is dissolved any better than any other food. The same goes for nearly every food that has once been on the magic list.
