The Healthy Way to Lose Weight in a Week

When it comes to weight loss, many people are trying to find the quick and easy way to shed the pounds. How fast can I lose these 20 extra pounds? The fact is the only true and tried method to lose weight is proper diet and exercise. The most weight you can hope to lose in a week is 1-2 lbs. If you lose more weight than that in a week, you are losing muscle instead of fat and the likelihood of gaining the weight back is very high. To lose more than 1-2 lbs a week, you are probably following a fad diet, a quick unhealthy weight loss plan that is not appropriate for long term use.

Moderation and Frequency Are Key

Moderation is the key for a successful diet. Even too much of a good thing can be bad. If you find you are hungry throughout the day, then you are not eating enough food. Some studies have shown that eating 5-6 smaller meals are more helpful for weight loss than 3 big meals. By eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day, you can keep your energy level up, your blood sugar from dropping, your metabolism high - and you'll feel satisfied all day long. You need to make sure you choose the right foods and amounts for these small snacks and meals. Fruits and vegetables mixed with some dairy or protein are great snack ideas. Here are some suggestions:

  • Apples and peanut butter
  • A small spinach salad with light fat dressing (the fat helps your body absorb the nutrients and vitamins from the spinach)
  • Yoghurt and a banana

If you lose 1-2 lbs a week, it can add up to 75 lbs a year. That is a lot of weight to lose and keep off. To lose weight the proper way gives you a greater chance of keeping the weight off. Developing weight loss and weight control into a lifestyle will keep you at your optimal weight for a lifetime and help you stay healthier. Unfortunately, there is no quick weight loss diet that is going to help you lose the weight you want to lose and keep it off. These diets all fail because it takes determination and a total lifestyle change to become healthier.
