Getting the Real Facts on Quick Weight Loss Plans

Every time you turn around there is a new quick weight loss plan available. Give up carbohydrates on the Atkins diet; assign points to food on Weight Watchers; replace two meals a day with a Slim Fast shake; or eat a grapefruit at every meal and watch the pounds melt away. Many of these quick plans are too severe to maintain for any length of time. You may lose weight on many of them, however gain it all back the minute you go off the diet. The goal is to avoid always being on a diet. We all know that diets don't work in the long term. However, many of these quick loss plans have some useful information that will aid in long term weight loss and weight control.

Long-term performance of quick weight loss plans

The Atkins diet is very strict and difficult to follow long term. Learning about carbohydrates, what kind to eat and what kind to restrict can be a huge help. Too many carbohydrates can pack on the pounds and reduce fat burning. Weight Watchers is difficult for people who have a hard time keeping track of exact food amounts and tabs on what they eat all day. However, a great lesson from this diet is to watch portions. This diet really comes down to how much food you eat. You are allowed to eat whatever you want, but not everything you want. You may be surprised how little a cup of cereal is, or a tablespoon of salad dressing. Eating a grapefruit at every meal everyday may not be very doable. The theory is that grapefruits have a special enzyme that aids in fat burning. There are some foods that help the body process calories faster and help burn fat better. Learning about nutrition and portion control will help establish a life long diet that you will be able to maintain.

How About a Head Start?

A Quick weight loss plan may be useful in jump-starting a weight loss plan. Sometimes people are more motivated if they can lose a quick 5-10 lbs. However, you then need to follow up with a diet and exercise plan that becomes a way of life. Diets that cut out certain foods, cut too many calories or have you eating too much of one kind of food are not going to last. It is also not a healthy way to eat. Eat in moderation, exercise and realize that weight loss is not immediate gratification. Good healthy results will take time.
