Benefits of a Weight Chart

Keeping a personal weight chart can help you see where you are at in your weight loss journey and how far you have come. A weight chart can be a useful tool to determine if the things you are doing and the way you are eating is helping you drop on the scale. Below are some tips to keep your weight chart working for you, rather than against you.

  • If you are not losing any weight, don't despair. You can be losing fat and still not be losing weight. This happens when you are also gaining muscle at the same time, say from exercising. This is still a good thing as muscle helps you look lean and fit -- fat does not.
  • If your weight chart shows that you are gaining weight, see where you can cut down on calories here and there. For example, don't eat dessert every night or try to eat less carbohydrates and more protein. Also exercising a little more each day -- even just 15 extra minutes -- will help you burn off quite a few more calories.
  • Use several colors and/or shading to make your chart more user 'at-a-glance' friendly, so that you can easily compare day to day, week to week, and month to month.

Your chart should help you "see" where you are going on your weight loss journey and times when you need to make a few changes to get back on track. This can be a very useful tool that will help you leap towards your goals.
