How A Weight Loss Center Makes You Fat For Life

Going to a weight loss center can be a good or bad idea, depending if you plan to lose the weight and keep it off or become a habitual member. Before visiting weight loss centers in your city or neighborhood, research them on-line and think about what kind of diet program might work for you. The reason for the introspection before shopping around for a weight loss center is because most people who work at the centers are salespeople trained to convince you to sign up or join right away.

Before visiting weight loss clinics, ask yourself a few key questions.

  • Are you a private person?

If you are the kind of person who is secretive, especially about your weight, going to diet centers is not a good idea.

Instead, look for an online support group where you can find anonymous help from experts and fellow dieters.

  • Are you independent or a joiner?

If you are a more independent person, you might not like the structure of diet clinics. Also, you will have to deal with the high-pressure sales. People who work for Jenny Craig try to sell vitamins, frozen and pre-packaged diet meals as well as books or gadgets.

You may feel pressured into buying more than you want to buy.

If you are a joiner, think instead about joining a health club, gym or tennis club for more exercise.

Are you sure you keep the weight off?

Anyone can go to a weight loss clinic and lose 10 or 15 pounds.

But you should think about whether you will keep the weight off for the long-term.

Think about how the weight loss program makes money. They often suck clients in by helping them lose an initial 10 to 20 pounds. But when they encourage people to consume too few calories, which most of them do, you will only succeed in lowering your metabolism. They have a vested interest in you failing to keep off the weight in the long run.

Once your metabolism is lowered you will have an even harder time losing weight. You may even turn back to the same weight loss clinic for help.

Now they have you as a lifelong member with a "platinum membership." But you may wish you never stepped foot into the weight loss center.
