Drinking A Diet Poison: How Aspartame Kills

It's not an urban legend. Many scientists say aspartame has toxic effects on the human body and can actually promote weight gain.

You don't need to drink 100 cans of diet soda a day to feel the toxic effects of this diet poison.

What exactly is aspartame? Aspartame is also known as Nutrasweet and Equal. A researcher named James Schlatter discovered aspartame by accident in 1965. He was looking for a treatment for ulcers and conducing research with amino acids. When Schlatter tasted his fingers he noticed a sweet flavor, which would eventually become known as aspartame.

Aspartame is 200-times sweeter than sugar.

Aspartame is 10 percent wood alcohol or methanol, which is highly toxic. Although aspartamemethanol can be found in natural sources, the fruits and vegetables that have it also contain ethanol and pectin, which stop the methanol from being metabolized into formaldehyde, a deadly toxin.

Experts say aspartame also contains phenylalanine and aspartic acid, which are amino acids that are naturally found as part of a complex chain of amino acids. The two amino acids were not meant to be isolated. By themselves, phenylalanine and aspartic acid can overstimulate the brain and cause an assortment of health problems.

Some of the toxic effects of using aspartame include the following:

  • asthma
  • phobias/paranoia/personality changes
  • depression
  • confusion
  • chronic fatigue
  • dizziness/tremors
  • slurred speech
  • seizures and convulsions
  • panic attacks
  • rapid heart beat

Experts say aspartame disease can cause or worsen other diseases such as lupus, fibromyalgia, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis and arthritis.

Aspartame also has a remarkable ability to increase a person's appetite. How many times have you heard a person at a restaurant order a fattening meal such and bacon double cheeseburger and fries with a diet soda?

According to a recent study by the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, diet soda drinks promote weight gain. They analyzed eight years of data on 1,550 people. Participants who drank one diet soda every day were 65 percent more likely to become overweight during the next 7 to 8 years. They were 41 percent more likely to become obese than non-diet drinkers.

Researchers at Purdue University found rats fed artificial sweeteners ate three times the calories of those given sugar.

Aspartame is also linked to headaches and brain tumors, according to researchers. Between 1973 and 1990, the number of brain tumors in people over 60 has increased by 67 percent in the United States, according to the National Cancer Institute.

If you have been using too much aspartame, it may take several weeks before your symptoms begin to disappear. Detoxify your body by drinking plenty of clean water and removing all artificially-sweetened products from your diet. You may be surprised to find you actually lose weight by removing those so-called diet drinks containing aspartame, the diet poison.
