Bee Pollen Is Your New Weight Loss Pal, Honey!

Next time you're tempted to swat at a bee buzzing by, give it a second thought. That bee could be your new weight loss buddy. No, the bee isn't going to call you up and make you go to the gym when you're feeling lazy, but bee pollen could help you burn calories! Bee pollen is made of pellets of flower dust (collected from the "reproductive" parts of a plant) that are stuck to a bee's legs at the end of a hard day of pollinating. Commercial vendors of bee pollen outfit hives with special devices that brush off and collect the pollen from the bee's legs.

What the Heck Is This Stuff?

This stuff is composed of a little piece of every plant the bee visited that day. Because of this diversity in material, bee pollen is vitamin-rich and any given pollen sample contains virtually every mineral known to man. But how does all this help you lose weight? Another key ingredient is "lecithin." Lecithin has been shown to speed up the number of bee pollencalories your body burns and have an overall positive effect on a poor metabolism. The lecithin in a bee's pollen helps correct a chemical imbalance present in the metabolism of some individuals experiencing abnormal weight gain. Additionally, there is evidence that lecithin has purifying properties-helping to flush fat from the body.

Bee's pollen is also believed to act as an appetite suppressant. Because each nutrient your body needs can be found in a serving, this magic supplement is said to curb cravings. It is incredibly low-calorie. A serving equivalent to two tablespoons contains only 90 calories. That's a pretty good trade-off, 90 calories for the possibility of staving off cravings to consume hundreds more.

What Else Have You Done for Me Lately?

If you've woken up to a few uninvited wrinkles over the past few years, the bee can help with that, too. According to some studies, pollen has anti-aging properties. It's supposed to help you achieve a healthy glow and keep your skin smoother. Also, it can keep your skin younger and fresher by stimulating new skin tissue growth. But even your dry cells aren't a lost cause; pollen from bees injects them with a fresh blood supply that fights dehydration.
