Diet On Tap: Busting A Beer Belly With Brew

When it comes to the round belly and flabby mid-section, it might seem as though beer is the main culprit. We even call it a "beer belly."

But people who are in moderately good health and exercise on a regular basis should have no problem drinking light beer or an occasional regular beer.

Bob Skilnik, the author of The Drink Beer Get Thin Diet, says beer may be incorporated into a person's low-carbohydrate lifestyle. His book features 350 beers from 50 worldwide breweries.

One of the reasons people lose weight when they permit their favorite foods or drinks is simply because they do not feel deprived. Deprived dieters often rebel which leads to binge eating or drinking.

If you are craving a beer, stick with a light beer and try to limit your consumption. Most light beers do not contain many calories. A 12-ounce serving of Budweiser Light contains 108 while there is 102 calories in Coors Light.

For people who count carbohydrate grams, Coors Blue Moon Belgian White has 12.87;beer Corona Extra has 13.99, New Belgium Fat Tire 13.66; Pilsner Urquell has 14.70, Leinenkugel Original has 13.90 and Grant's Scottish Ale has 12.70 grams of carbohydrates.

A regular glass of beer typically has about 150 calories. If you drink a six-pack of beers a week, you are downing 1,050 calories. That means you are already one-third of the way to gaining a pound. It will be difficult to get that six-pack abs if you don't give up your other six packs first. Diet and regular soda pop is just as harmful for your waistline.

Of course, losing weight is not that simplistic. Sometimes it's better to enjoy a beer once in a while as part of an overall healthful diet.

Be aware of the fact that craving carbohydrates or alcohol such as beer may be an indication of an imbalance. Your may have an overgrowth of yeast or candida. Drinking beer with exacerbate the problem. If you decide to take herbal products and supplements to get rid of candida and subsequently your cravings, you may need to abstain from beer for at least a month.

Beer is not forbidden on every fad diet. One diet, called the "General Motors Weight Loss Diet Program" allows beer after the initial cleansing period.

Dieters must abstain from beer and other alcohol for the first seven days, while drinking 10 glasses of water each day.

Ultimately, if you want to have flat abs, you have to let the beer go flat first. Well, maybe after the first few sips.
