Info on Diets

Bread can be a diet product, too!

Hunza bread: probably the most popular type of diet bread, Hunza bread was originally prepared by Hunzas, one of three longest-living civilisations in the world. Basically, it is a variation of normal whole wheat bread, but with a nice twist that makes it a low-calorie product. A tip: if you double or triple the amount of honey you use to make the bread, the calorie value will increase a little, but the bread will reduce your hunger much faster. Most of the time it is a fair trade.

Ingredients: 2 cups of bread flour, a cup of whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup of wheat germ, abread pack of active dry yeast, 1/4 cup of light brown sugar, a teaspoon of honey, a teaspoon of salt, ginger, cinnamon, 2 tablespoons of butter, 1/2 cup of dried fruits (dark and golden raisins, apricots, or pineapple) and one and a half cups of warm water.

  • How to make Hunza bread: Place all the ingredients in a bowl, mix and knead the dough. Use as much cinnamon and ginger as you need for your taste. When the dough is ready, shape it into two loaves of bread. Use a lightly greased pan and bake the loaves on them until they double their size. Place it in the oven and bake for 40 minutes in 350 degrees.

Calorie value: approximately 115 calories per slice.

Peasant bread: an original medieval recipe wasn't meant to de dietetic but nevertheless it is so. It needs only few ingredients and is relatively easy to prepare and bake even for inexperienced bakers.

Ingredients: 3 cups of bread Flour, a packet of active dry yeast, a teaspoon of salt, a tablespoon of olive oil and a cup of hot water.

  • How to make a peasant diet bread: Place a cup of flour, yeast, salt and water in a bowl, then mix it with a mixer. Add two remaining cups of flour gradually during mixing until the dough ball forms. When the dough is ready, knead it for about 15 minutes, then cover it with the olive oil. After that, cover the bread-to-be with a towel and place it in some warm spot for two hours. Shape the loaves and leave them be for another hour, so they could double in size again. Bake at 400 degrees for about 45 minutes.

Calorie value: 1,300 calories a loaf.
