Eat your cookies and stay healthy too

Just because you are on a diet doesn't mean you have to deny yourself cookies or other desserts. With today's health conscious population, there are a wide variety of healthy cookie choices out there. You will surely be able to find something to suit your taste, and if not you can make your own batch of cookies that don't impede your weight loss plan.

Most basic cookie recipes can be altered to make them healthier without compromising the taste. The problem with many homemade cookies is the fat, which comes from the butter. Cutting the fat out of your cookies completely will result in unsatisfying taste in texture, but you can greatly reduce the amount of fat with these simple steps. To make your cookies lower in fat, simply substitute the butter with margarine. Also, most recipes cookiewill still turn out great if you use only half of the amount of butter it calls for. If the recipe requires a whole stick of butter, use half a stick instead. Additionally, try using cocoa as a healthier alternative to chocolate. Nuts make a great substitute for chocolate chips or try a sugar substitute such as Splenda.

Today there are many healthy cookie brands to choose from. Even the famous Girl Scouts cookies now offer a few healthier alternatives. The South Beach diet plan also has its own line of cookies and desserts. For an even healthier option, try replacing your cookies with graham crackers or biscuits.

Remember, reducing the fat in your favorite cookies or choosing a low-calorie cookie from the store is not an excuse to eat more. No matter how healthy your cookies are, sugary foods should always be consumed in moderation. By making your own cookies, you can enjoy tasty treats while still sticking to your weight loss plan.
