The most popular, and most famous, of the diet pills with fiber is Trimspa. You've undoubtedly heard of this dietary supplement, which supposedly helped the overweight Guess model turned reality star Anna Nicole Smith regain her figure. Trimspa was around for quite a while before the now infamous "Do you like my body?" remark that turned it into a household name.

Fiber By Any Other Name

Like all diet pills with fiber, Trimspa can aid in weight loss because fiber expands in the fibre pillsstomach, which makes you feel fuller after eating less food. Also, diet pills with fiber are sometimes called a "bulk-forming laxative." Without going into too much detail, fiber basically helps keep you regular. Fat moves through you faster and less of it is absorbed. An alternative to Trimspa is Hoodia. It works much like any of the diet pills with fiber, but costs much less.

How Does Fiber Help?

The most obvious alternative to diet pills with fiber is to increase your fiber intake through the foods you eat. Fiber contains no calories (yay!), and as mentioned above, will make you feel fuller longer and more quickly than other foods.

There are two types of fiber, each with its own weight-loss-promoting property: water-soluble and water-insoluble. Water-soluble fiber makes you feel fuller longer because it exits your stomach more slowly. Water-soluble fiber can be found in fruit, legumes, oat products, and seeds. Water-soluble's counterpart, water-insoluble fiber, adds bulk to your diet, which makes you feel satisfied, particularly by giving you that oh-so-satisfying feel of chewing that those diet shakes completely lack. You can find water-insoluble fiber in whole grain breads and cereals as well as vegetables.

Alternatively, some foods are pretty much stripped of fiber. They include:

  • white bread
  • white rice
  • sugary breakfast cereals
  • crackers
  • anything made with white flour

These foods will be turned into sugar quickly by your body, resulting in an insulin spike inevitably followed by an insulin drop. You'll feel sluggish and immediately want to eat something-and you'll probably crave something high in sugar.

So yes, diet pills with fiber can help you lose weight. But they help you lose weight because they are just another way to get the positive effects of eating lots of fiber. Don't forget that adding foods high in fiber to your weekly grocery list is a cheaper, and probably healthier way, to get the same effects as a diet pill with fiber.
