Breaking The Dieting Rules By Eating When You Are HungryOne of the cardinal rules of deprivation diets is to starve. If you don't have hunger pains, you won't fit into our skinny jeans by the weekend. But when dieting means a self-imposed famine as opposed to a healthy eating plan, it's doomed for failure. Playing the dieting game: Whether it's the Atkins, Cabbage Soup, Grapefruit, Hollywood Miracle, Rice or South Beach, most diets come with set of rules to play the "game." People who are dieting will often say they are in phase one or phase two of a certain diet plan. While dieting, you may decide to count calories, fat, carbohydrate, fiber, sugar, sodium or all of the above. While it might be helpful to keep a journal while you are dieting, it's not necessary to count anything as long as you are eating when you are hungry and not eating when you bored, feeling emotional or using food as comfort. The purpose of food is to nourish your body and give you energy you need to survive. Exercise to burn fatMany people who play the dieting game are too tired to exercise because they are eating too few calories. The No. 1 secret to getting in shape is to burn calories instead of reducing caloric intake. Ideally, you should find out what your resting metabolic rate by using some of the technology on the market nowadays that gives you an accurate reading of how many calories your body burns at rest. Then, strive to consume those calories when you are actually hungry. Don't eat if you are not hungry, just because it's a lunchtime or dinnertime. If you have children, don't make them eat everything on their plates if they are not hungry. Ignore your BMISome people play the diet game because they think they are overweight or obese based on the outdate Body Mass Index (BMI) charts. The problem with BMI charts is that they don't take into account people who have a high percentage of lean muscle mass. Most athletes appear trim and lean, but they might actually be called obese according to the BMI charts. Muscle weighs more than fat. An individual with a BMI between 25 to 30 is considered overweight. An individual with a BMI of 30 or greater is considered obese. But the only true way to determine whether or not you are obese is by testing your body fat percentage. Instead starving yourself, break all the dieting rules by eating when you are hungry and exercising to burn fat. You'll end up looking like an athlete. And I don't know too many people who would mind trading their hunger pains for more energy and a toned body. |
