Spin Away Fat With Low-Impact Exercise Bikes

Most stationary exercise bikes begin at $650. It's a small investment for people who want a solid cardiovascular workout that is also low-impact. Stationary exercise bicycles and spinning bikes make excellent additions to any home gym. If you want to save money, use the following tips to help you select a used exercise bike or a new piece of equipment.

Spinning bikes for indoor exercise

One of the hottest trends in fitness is called spinning. People can use a spinning bike in the privacy or their own home or as part of a group exercise class. You can adjust a spinning bike to mimic the kind of workout you would bet on a traditional bicycle you take on a hometrainertrail or the road.

Spinning provides excellent exercise with virtually no stress to your joints and knees.

Picking the best stationary exercise bike

When shopping for a training bike, look for ones that have electronic brakes that adjust as you change speed. Some exercise bikes come with a resistance knob that lets you adjust the workout. For a smooth ride, don't buy bikes with rubber pincers. Rather, choose ones with a friction belt.

If you have back problems, select a model with a reclining design. Most training bicycles also come with pedal clips so you can alternate between pushing and pulling motions for a complete workout.

Finally, ask yourself a few key questions before investing in a new exercise bike.

  • Do I like to use exercise bikes? If you have never tried an exercise bike or don't regularly use one at the gym, it's probably not a good time to buy one.
  • Can I afford to purchase new exercise equipment? Don't buy a new piece of equipment if you have to put it on a credit card and juggle the rest of your bills. Take up walking instead and wait until you have more money to make a big purchase.
  • Do I have room for an exercise bike in my house? If you live in a small home or apartment, an exercise bike may not be the best fit. Make sure you have a room devoted to exercise because perspiration can create an unpleasant smell. Make sure you have a room with plenty of ventilation.
  • Will the exercise bicycle help me lose weight? Most people can burn about 500 calories by working out hard, but you may only burn 200 to 300 calories if your workout is casual and you are watching television.
