Fish Oil: The Good Kind of Fat

Many weight loss experts advocate cutting fats out of your diet to lose the pounds and slim your body. But there are some fats you might want to keep, like the omega-3 fat found in fish oil.

If you divide types of fats into good and bad categories, the polyunsaturated fats found in fish oil would be on the good side. These fats help reduce your triglycerides and are found in fish like herring, trout, salmon, tuna and sardines.

Studies have shown that a diet rich in omega-3 fats actually raises your metabolic rate and helps you burn more fat on a daily basis than you would without them. It helps manage your insulin levels, which are linked to weight gain, and has also been shown to fight aging effects on your brain as well. Some experts even venture to say that consuming more fish fish oiloil could even help prevent the onset of Alzheimer's.

Eating certain types of fish (like the ones listed above) can also help increase your heart's health by regulating its rhythm.

Because of the amount of pollution found in our oceans, it can be a little worrisome to eat huge amounts of fresh fish. The fish-oils can also be taken as supplements, however, and the effects can be just as profound.
