Flax Seed Oil is an Omega-3 Powerhouse

Losing weight is always a balancing act, and one of the first things to go in a person's diet is often the proper nutrients, especially what are called the "healthy fats." These include the Omega Acids that help prevent heart disease, lower cholesterol and contribute to controlling high blood pressure. An excellent source of Omega Fatty Acids that any dieter can take as a supplement is flax seed oil.

Flax seed oil is the cold-pressed oil derived from seeds from the Canadian flax plant. It is nature's richest source of three important fatty acids - Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9. All of these are important nutrients that few people today get enough of from their daily food intake, and even less so when trying to reduce their calorie intake. In fact, flax seed oil has even more of the Omega fatty acids than the always popular fish oil supplements.

If you take flax seed oil daily, you will also notice an improvement in the health of your flax seed oilsskin, hair and nails within six to eight weeks. Because it also increases energy and helps shorten the recovery time for muscles after exercise or excessive use, it can also help you stay on track with a good exercise program, which should always be a part of losing weight and keeping it off.

Most flax seed oil supplements are available in gel capsules. Because flax seed oil is highly perishable, look for capsules that are amber colored or darker (light causes the oil to deteriorate faster), and store the jar in your refrigerator. One or two capsules daily will round out your diet with the fatty acids your body needs and just can't get any other way.
