Learn which granola bars will help you get thinner.

Originally, granola was a kind of food made of whole grain that was first crumbled and then baked until crispy. It became a part of the hippie legend as an the favorite food at the Woodstock Festival in 1969. After that it was quickly adopted by large snack food companies which began to sell it in form of granola bars.

Despite the fact that it was quickly categorized as snack (and therefore junk) food, granola is probably the healthiest snack food ever. That makes it an excellent replacement of other, less healthy and much more fattening, snacks. It is especially true for so-called Granola bars"low-fat" granola bars that usually contain only little calories.

Another interesting thing about granola bars is that they contain large quantities of fibers, vitamin C and Iron. Unlike most other snacks, granola actually introduces some useful ingredients in the diet!

However, the term "low fat" does not necessarily mean that such granola bars are really diet food. Before you decide to switch from Snickers to granola bars, make sure that the latter:

  • does not include sugar in place of fat,
  • if the bars still contain some fat, make sure it hasn't been preprocessed,
  • has lower calorie value than other snacks,
  • is very crispy and dry (it means there are no "empty calories" in the snack),
  • has no artificial ingredients or preservatives.

Remember to read the label thoroughly! Otherwise you risk getting just another "junk" snack disguised as diet food and got stuck with something that will only slow down the weight loss process. Remember that granola bars aren't meant to be the basis of your diet, only an add-on.

Granola is probably the healthiest snack food ever made, but you still have to remember that it can't be eaten in large quantities. Even the diet version of granola bars aren't calorie-free and eating more than a bar every second day may negate all the benefits of the diet.
