Healthy Eating and Regular Exercise - the True Way to Lose Weight

Diet pills, fad eating programs, magic soups, mystical herbs.when you are trying to lose weight, the choices can be overwhelming. Yet time and again, studies show that the most effective way to lose weight, and keep it off, is by combining an exercise program with healthy eating. Are You Eating Healthy? Try This 3-Day Test: You may think you're eating a healthy, balanced diet full of fruits and vegetables, lean meats and whole grains. You might be surprised, however, how much unhealthy food creeps into even the most well-intentioned diet plan. To really analyze your diet, write down everything you eat for the next three days: every sliver of cake, every broken cookie, every stale Lifesaver in your purse. After three days, take a close look at the results, and ask yourself these questions:

  • Were my protein choices based on lean meats, fish and skinless poultry?
  • Were my carbohydrates from whole grains and unprocessed foods?
  • Did I eat more refined sugar and processed foods that I should have?
  • Are there certain times of the day or situations that cause me to make poor food choices?

After you've analyzed your eating habits, you can begin to make some sensible changes. For example, if you notice you have a sugary snack in the afternoon, try packing a piece of fruit or some carrots to nibble when those late-day munchies hit. By making small changes, a little at a time, you'll soon find yourself on the way to a healthier eating plan and a slimmer you.
