Herbalife Weight Loss Program: Facts and Fiction

While no diet is perfect for everyone, you'll find that every diet plan out there has its cadre of followers and fans. The Herbalife weight loss program is no different. Founded in 1980, Herbalife International sells its weight loss program and nutritional supplements to consumers worldwide. With its global force of independent distributors, it brings in almost $2 billion every year in retail sales. Offering more than just diet products, it claims to focus on overall wellness and nutrition. It's the diet program, however, that is usually the biggest draw to new customers. The program works through a series of shakes, snacks and supplements, along with one meal of "real" food every day.

The company website provides lots of testimonials about the wonders of the program, and people have lost some real weight. The program's claims, however, might be a little misleading.

What's the Drawback of the Herbalife Weight Loss Program?

No meal replacement program, like the one provided by Herbalife, will teach dieters a healthier way to live and eat. It won't teach you how to keep your diet balanced and be selective of all different types of foods you need to thrive.

Another complaint about the Herbalife program is that its projected weekly weight loss rate is usually too high. Most experts agree that one to two pounds per week is about all your body can stand to lose if you're doing it safely. Herbalife claims you can lose about three to seven pounds per week. You might just do that, but you can be pretty sure that weight won't stay off.

So what's the real skinny on the program? Herbalife could be an adequate short-term diet program, providing you also attempt to educate yourself on healthy diets and don't begin to rely on the supplements and shakes as a long-term solution.
