A high-fiber low-fat diet can help you lose weight - safely!

The scientific basis of a high-fiber low-fat diet is relatively simple. It assumes that there are two main causes of overweight. First, we instinctively favor foods containing fat. That was a good idea for the times when the food was scarce and we needed all of it simply to stay alive. However, the times have changed faster than our eating habits and now we suffer from our tendency to eat fatty products. Another problem is that we tend to eat until our stomach is full. That's just another gift from the past when we were forced to eat as much as we could because there was no telling when we would have a chance to eat again.fibers, but no fat

While most modern diets simply order us to fight these habits, low-fat high-fiber diet calls for something else - actively using them to decrease the calories intake. The mechanism of the diet is relatively simple. It permits eating fat because it contains valuable food supplements, but naturally limits its amount by using large quantities of fiber-rich foods, such as wheat-based products, fruits and vegetables. As they quickly fill the stomach in, they reduce hunger, naturally limiting the fat intake.

Situations when a high-fiber low-fat diet works best.

There are two moments when this diet gives the best results. One is the time before the overweight problems spirals out of control. Then, this gentle diet can painlessly bring you back to your normal weight. Another is when you are more concerned about your health than your weight - the high fiber diet has a strong anti-carcinogenic effect and it decreases the chance of a heart attack.

Generally, high-fiber low-fat diets are best if we have time to wait for the effects. Forget losing twenty pounds in a week - this diet works best if used continuously for months or even years. On the other hand, there is little chance of suffering from a yo-yo effect.

Remember however that in case of extreme obesity a high-fiber low-fat diet won't be of any help. Then, the more "aggressive" diet, often combined with a weight loss pills or even a surgical operation might be in order.
