Workout At Home: Set Up A Home Gym

When it comes to setting up a home gym, most people just need to think outside the box. Your fitness space does not need to resemble a professional gymnasium and it does not need to smell like one either. Choose a room for your workout: First, pick a room or space for your exercise equipment. Some executive homes include master bathrooms and closets with space for a treadmill or elliptical trainer. Don't be afraid to be creative when it comes to finding a nontraditional space for your workout.

Some people like to workout in their garage, but it's not the ideal space for people who enjoy pleasant surroundings when they are working out. If you do decide to workout in your garage, make sure you have proper ventilation by opening the garage door.

Pick a space with windows

Make sure your workout room is located in an area that has plenty of windows to allow home gymsfresh air. Don't depend on air-conditioning unless you have a whole-hair air filter system to clean the air. Get the cross-ventilation going by opening windows in several rooms to air out your home gymnasium where you will probably perspire and create a bid of a foul smell after a few weeks.

While it's nice to burn candles and incense to keep the workout spot smelling fresh, do that after you have worked out. The best fragrances are those that relax such as lavender or vanilla. Some scents energize you, which is great for a workout haven at home.

Choose the best equipment

Another important part of setting up a home gym is to purchase the necessary exercise equipment. You will need cardiovascular equipment, free weights or a machine for resistance, stability balls and mats for doing yoga and stomach exercises.

You may also want to have a large screen television in your home gym so you can follow aerobic, Pilates or other exercise DVDs. Some cable television programs now also include fit television programs that air exercise classes.

Finally, you don't have to leave your house to have a great workout. Be creative and make your personalized gym a space where you will feel energized and refreshed.
