It is very easy: simply divide your mass in kilograms by the square of your height in meters. The result will show you if you should look for a good thinning diet or rather for something to eat.

Here are definitions of the BMI results:

  • Underweight <18.5
  • Normal weight 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight 25-29.9
  • Obesity >30

As the show business promotes skinny stars who have only muscles, tendons, bones and silicon breasts size D, some people think that they are obese while actually they are not even overweight. This is a common problem of girls and young women whose efforts to look like pop-stars can lead them to anorexia, bulimia or the plastic surgery.

Still, even smal overweight problems should be a warning signal for you to reduce the intake of calories. It is much easier to lose fourteen pounds than forty and then to maintain your weight at the right level after achieving the needed results.

There are many weight loss tips and tricks, but some of them should be considered rather as health loss methods. A proper weight loss diet:

  • must not consist of only one product, for it will ruin your body,
  • exhausting exercises, although they will cause loss of weight, may also effect in severe health problems, especially when you are not used to physical activities.

The most important thing is to lose the weight but not at the health expense. This is why a good diet should be balanced and must include everything that is vital for our body, even if some of foods we eat are responsible for gaining weight. It should be also connected with a wise exercise program as well as nutritional education to prevent any problems after finishing the "weight loss project".

The body is a very complicated mechanism with great inertia. The best answer to question "how can I lose weight?" is "slowly". Of course you can starve yourself to near-death and get rid of even as many as four pounds a day, but you can be sure that when you start eating again, you will gain weight very fast. Only when you get used to some rules of food selection and serving, you will have a chance to keep your weight at the reasonable level without afraid of the yo-yo effect.
