Is It Possible to Lose Weight Without Going Hungry?

Hunger is a perfectly natural signal from your body that it's time to refuel. Many dieters like feeling a little bit hungry, knowing that they are depriving their body of some of the fuel it wants. But it's easy to over-do it. When the hunger gets out of control, it makes us more likely to choose high calorie, high sugar and high fat foods. And there goes the diet.

To avoid this, make small snacks a part of your meal plan, and focus on fruits, vegetables, nuts and other nutrient-rich foods. Eating small snacks will keep those hunger pangs away, while keeping you on a course for successful weight loss.

Avoid These Triggers that Might Cause Overeating

If you are struggling to lose weight, you know there are a lot of pitfalls out there. By being aware of your stumbling blocks, you can fight the hunger and lose the weight:

  • Emotional eating - Many of use eat for non-physical reasons; stress, anxiety, boredom, anger, frustration, loneliness can all trigger a feeling an urge to eat. Try going for a walk instead.
  • Food additives - Some studies suggest that non-calorie additives, especially aspartame (NutraSweet) can trigger hunger. Drinking diet sodas and eating sugar-free foods can actually sabotage your diet.
  • Physical problems - Some medical conditions, including thyroid imbalances, cause an increase in the feelings of hunger and can lead to overeating. Get a checkup to rule out any physical causes for your hunger.
  • Don't starve yourself - Restricting your calories too much can cause your body to think its starving. When you do eat, your normal response to being full may not work properly, and you could end up binging.
