Good Nutrition and Weight Loss Should Go Hand-in-Hand

There are fad diets, liquid diets, diet pills and lots of other ways advertised to lose weight, but very few of them acknowledge the strong link between good nutrition and weight loss. While taking a diet supplement or using a particular diet may help to get you started, if you don't learn good nutritional practices, your diet will fail when you stop actively losing and have to try and keep the weight off.

There is another very good reason to keep good nutrition in mind while dieting - you want to lose fat, not water weight or muscle mass. If you aren't getting the right balance of everything your body needs, it will start using the wrong things, resulting in weight loss that can also affect your health - some people develop gout and gallstones on severe diets.

The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat a nutritionally balanced diet that is high in fiber and lower in fats and simple carbohydrates. Lean protein, lots of vegetables and fruits should be the mainstays of your diet. If you eat more of these foods and less rich sauces, sugary treats and highly processed foods (which are usually high in sodium content), you will naturally end up consuming fewer calories.

So go ahead and diet to lose those unwanted pounds, but educate yourself about proper nutrition while you're shedding that unwanted weight. That way, when you've lost the weight you want to, you can keep it off and stay healthier, too.
