A Workable Diet: Break Obesity Cycle At WorkWhen it comes to obesity statistics, the facts are startling. More than 60 million Americans are overweight and more than 40 million are obese. Eight out of 10 Americans are overweight. When you look around at the people in your office or neighborhood, it's often hard to find a person who does not have a weight problem. Most people in the workplace today are heavy because their jobs do not require physical labor. A sedentary office culture leads to a heavy workplace population. But you can make a difference in your place of work by changing the dynamics. Encourage a walk-and-talk meetingInstead of inviting everyone to sit around the conference table, break the cycle of obesity by having walk-and-talk meetings. Create a mobile office environment. When a client calls to set up a phone interview or meeting at a restaurant, suggest meeting at the gym instead and talking during a game of tennis or golf. Take every opportunity to get moving instead of sitting in front of a computer all day. Break the doughnut habit
Don't give out rewards such as gift certificates to restaurants unless it's a restaurant known for healthful smoothies, salads and healthful alternatives. If you do have people who are obese and don't want to change, don't push them. Some people say they like to live large. Just set a good example and don't let yourself get obese. |
