Should You Invest In A Personal Diet?

The personal diet is a natural outgrowth of the explosion of personal trainers and personal fitness consultants that came with the gym craze of the '90s. As personal income and disposable income rose, people began looking for ways to spend more of that dough on their own care. The personal trainer was a great choice, because he or she could give individual consultation and daily or weekly coaching, encouragement and advice.

Personal diets take the exercise and support offered by a personal trainer and add in coverage of the complete nutritional aspect of your life. Many personal diet programs will match you with a personal shopper who will take you to the grocery store and walk you through a healthy shopping trip, pointing out low fat alternatives and fruits and vegetables you might have missed otherwise.

Here are a few things to look for when choosing a personal diet:

  • Service: What does the diet offer? Is it just an eating plan, or is exercise and A Personal Dietlifestyle coaching included? If you're going to pay for personal service, you should get it. Also, will you be dealing with the same person or team all the time, or will it be luck of the draw? Some large practices will rotate clients among staff members, which can lead to a lack of cohesiveness.
  • Support: How accessible are the plan coaches/trainers/nutritionists? If you have a question or run into a problem, can you get in touch with them outside your regularly scheduled sessions? Is there an extra charge? Be prepared to pay a nominal fee for extra consultations, although some plans factor in a certain number of "extra" calls per month.
  • Success: Does the plan offer believable testimonials from satisfied customers? Are there past users you can contact, perhaps? Be a little sneaky and talk to people in the waiting room, if there is one, and get their opinions. You're putting good money out for this program, you have a right to the fact. The Internet can be a fantastic resource here, as there are thousands of "rant and rave" boards where people post good and bad information about diets and diet programs.

Personal diets can be a great help if you haven't had success with the bigger diet programs, and if you've got the spare money to spend. Make sure you pick a program you can handle, and that the staff are people to whom you can relate.
