Foods with more fiber typically rank lower on the glycemic index.

Don't depend on the Slim Fast diet plan to provide you with all of the fiber you need in a day. Most people need at least 25 grams of fiber a day. If you decide to try Slim Fast products, make sure you write down how many grams of fiber you eat. Balance the diet out by adding fruits and vegetables high in fiber and rich in nutrients.

Glorified junk food

While Slim Fast boasts about having so many essential vitamins and minerals, it's no better than popping a vitamin supplement.

Your body still needs vitamins, minerals and fiber found naturally in foods that are not processed and do not include refined sugars. Slim Fast diet products, along with most diet products with refined sugars, are simply glorified junk food.

If you are looking for a sensible alternative, visit your neighborhood health food store or go on-line to select meal replacement bars or drinks that produce an alkaline effect in the body, contain whole grains, protein and no refined sugars.
