Info on Diets

Taurine is not only for sportsmen and students.

Taurine is one of amino acids. In our everyday life we encounter it mostly in energy drinks and bodybuilding supplements, but high amounts of it can be also found in such products as lean meat, poultry, fish and eggs.

Until recently taurine has been treated as an amino acid which helped fight such health problems as heart disease, epilepsy, alcoholism, Alzheimer's disease or hypercholesterolemia. Of course it served also as the ultimate help for all those people who needed to work hard, both physically and mentally.

However, some researches performed by the Japan scientists point out that taurine may be also useful in fighting obesity as it helps to reduce the body fat. All evidences show that obese mice which were treated with taurine lose their body fat. However, it is not certain that the same process will happen in case of humans. There were some studies made on college students and the effects were similar to those in case of mice, but it is hard to determine if the weight loss happened due to the taurine itself or rather by the increased physical activity.

Still, even if taurine will not be as effective in case of humans as it is in case of the mice, it can be still beneficial for all those people who exercise a lot in order to lose weight. First, it may indeed have some fat burning properties. Secondly, it can help us fight our laziness thus improving the effects of the diet and making it easier to exercise (and burn fat).

What's more, as taurine helps improve the status of kidneys and liver, it may be very beneficial for all those people who suffer from obesity caused or strengthened by the damages in these organs.

The bottom line: taurine certainly works, but we still don't know much about its long-term influence on our health. That's why we should rather increase the intake of this amino acid by changing our diet into a high-protein one than by taking various taurine-rich supplements or drinking too much Red Bull. We already know that a high-protein diet can help burn the body fat. And, according to the latest news about young people who exhausted themselves by intaking too much energy drinks instead of eating proper meals, it is also much healthier.
