Tips To Lose Weight From An Old Pro

For new dieters, the world of weight loss can be a scary and overly complex one. If you're looking for some tips to lose weight from someone who's been doing it for a while, and has tried just about everything under the sun, this article will help.

  • The first thing you need to do is figure out how much weight you need to lose. Then forget it. Write down the number somewhere and put it away. This is especially important if you have a lot of weight to lose. Done right, weight loss is a slow and steady process, and if you're constantly comparing what you've lost to the total you need to lose, you'll end up depressed and dejected.
  • The second thing is to set realistic goals for yourself. If you've got a lot of weight to lose, it's not uncommon to drop five or six pounds a week for the first couple of weeks. Don't fall into the trap of seeing that loss and thinking "Hey! I'll get this 100 pounds off in a few months!" Again, a normal, healthy weight loss rate is 1 to 2 pounds a week. That is the rate you'll find yourself at very soon after you start, and it's fine. If you ever think losing a pound is paltry, pick up a one-pound rock and whack yourself with it. Does that feel paltry? I didn't think so.

You've got to be prepared for the long term. Even after you lose the weight, you'll need to guard against gaining it back. Weight loss and healthy eating is a lifelong commitment, and it's one of the greatest things you can do to add years to your life and life to your years. When you're at a healthy weight, you'll be astounded at how things will improve, from your job prospects to your sex life.
