A weight loss diet can help you as well as cause a lot of harm

Before we start discussing your situation, let's make a few important disclaimers.

  • Disclaimer no. 1: there is no such thing as the only perfect diet. In every situation there are always at least two or three different ways to lose weight.
  • Disclaimer no. 2: all diets have to be combined with doing physical exercises in order to burn the fat we have already stored in our bodies.
  • Disclaimer no. 3: though various diet pills can effect in the weight loss, you can't rely on them to do all the thinning for you. Those who promise too much are lying.

Basically, when you choose a diet for you, you should consider several factors. Only if the diet of your choosing comply with them you can expect to succeed. Remember, you can't really force yourself into something that does not suit your body, at least not for long. The factors are:

  • how much weight you have to lose - the diets for people with the BMI of 40+ are different from those created for those with BMI 26,
  • your overall health status, especially any heart or digestive system conditions as well as possible diabetes or food allergies.
  • things you are willing to sacrifice in order to lose weight,

in what time you need the effects in (be realistic - a pound a week in long-term is generally all you can hope for).

If you suffer from only a mild overweight, simple reduction of daily calorie intake should be enough to stop or even reverse the process. In such case the most important thing is to act quickly. One year you only need to make a small reduction of the amount of food you eat, the next one you have to start a strict diet. If you're already obese, you have to make a lot of drastic changes in your diet. Just remember to do so after consulting your doctor.

As a rule of thumb, the better is your health, the more drastic changes in your diet you can risk. If your health status is less than perfect, remember to consult any changes in your diet with your doctor - NOT the dietician who advertises the diet.

The less time you have to lose weight, the more drastic diet you should take and more exercises you should do. However, be extra careful if you need quick effects - most short-term diets are dangerous to your health and if you hope to see the effects in a week (and keep them for more than a few days), forget it - such short-term diets causes weight loss due to getting rid of the water, not the fat. As the effect you may find yourself getting on weight again as soon as you finish dieting (the body will reabsorb the water). It's not your fault - it's the wrong diet that does not deal with the real causes of overweight.

The bottom line: find a well-balanced diet that works in a long term and the stick to it. Do as much exercises as you physically can, enjoy your living and in a year you'll see a drastic change in your weight.
